For trucks, vessels, trains and planes, the in-transit time period is 30 days from port of origin to port of destination. However, it is not uncommon for shipments to take longer due to a variety of factors.
When reviewing requests for extending in-transit periods, CBP will take into account logistical issues, as well as extraordinary circumstances that cannot be controlled by the parties themselves. A decision to extend the in-transit time period depends on the discretion of CBP on a case-by-case basis. It is at CBP’s discretion whether to grant such an extension. In-bond applications filed after the original in-bond movement do not extend the transit time.
