Type 86 is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) entry type that streamlines the import process for goods valued at under US$800 (de minimis). This entry type, previously referred to as Section 321, exempts such shipments from duties and taxes, offering a simplified clearance procedure.
These shipments are filed on the ACE manifest without a formal Customs entry, given no entry restrictions exist. Since duty and tax exemption applies to Type 86 shipments, it also eliminates the need for an entry bond.
While Entry Type 86 is designated for PGA Regulated Goods, it can only be utilized if no fees are associated with the PGA. If fees apply, Entry Type 86 cannot be employed. Additionally, goods subject to anti-dumping and/or countervailing duties, quota restrictions, as well as alcohol and tobacco products, are ineligible for Entry Type 86 clearance.
CBP introduced Entry Type 86 to enhance their capability to monitor goods entering the US under the low-value provision. This initiative aims to bolster CBP’s ability to screen these imports, thereby safeguarding the safety and security of the US.

In particular, it exempts products from customs and taxes as long as their entire fair retail value is below a set de minimis threshold. The de minimis barrier, as of the latest, is $800, which means goods worth $800 or less can be imported into the US duty-free.
