According to CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency), a freight forwarder under eManifest is defined as “a person or company in Canada who arranges for the transportation of commercial goods belonging to others, and who, at any point, has possession or control of the goods or who facilitates the release of the goods from Customs custody.” Freight forwarders are required to electronically transmit advance commercial information (ACI) to CBSA through eManifest, and obtain a CBSA-issued 8000 series carrier code in order to do so.
