AES 026 – I have heard that AES required a DUNS number. What do I do if I don’t have one?

The U.S. Automated Export System (AES) requires the use of an Employer Identification Number (EIN) to identify parties involved in export transactions. In addition to the EIN, the AES also permits the inclusion of a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number as an alternative means of identification.

“DUNS” numbers are unique identifiers issued to businesses by Dun & Bradstreet, and can be obtained for free by requesting one on their website. It is important to note that “DUNS” is a registered trademark of The Dun and Bradstreet Corporation.

It is not a requirement for AES.
