Integrated Import Declaration (IID) is a vital component of CBSA’s Single Window Initiative (SWI), aimed at simplifying the import process. IID streamlines decisions made by the CBSA and Partner Government Agencies (PGAs) who regulate imports into Canada, making it highly beneficial for customs brokers and importers.

CrimsonLogic’s IID software enhances this process with its user-friendly interface, enabling quick preparation, submission, and processing of trade declarations to the CBSA, nine participating government agencies (PGAs), and 38 government programs. Our full suite of solutions supports release declarations, B3 accounting, payment management, direct updates from CBSA, and document imaging functionality, ensuring a smooth and efficient Canadian customs clearance process.

On October 21, 2024, CARM will become the official system of record for imposing or levying duties and taxes. 

The CARM cutover period will extend from Oct 4 (4:00 PM ET) to Oct 21 (3:00 AM ET).

CARM, or CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management, will modernize and streamline the collection of duties and taxes for goods imported into Canada. 

The CARM Release 3 will introduce: changes to the Release Prior to Payment (RPP) Program, electronic commercial accounting declaration, harmonized billing cycles, new offsetting options, electronic management of appeals and compliance actions, the ability for resident trade chain partners to register of a Business Number (BN9) and enrolment in various CBSA commercial programs.

Integrated Import Declaration (IID) is a part of CBSA’s “Single Window Initiative”. It is intended to simplify the import process and streamline the decisions made by the CBSA and PGAs who regulate imports into Canada. CBSA will share the data they receive with the applicable PGAs and their government programs.

IID serves as both post- and pre-arrival release option and can be sent to CBSA for processing up to 90 days prior to the arrival of the goods. It can be utilized alongside Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) systems that provide information and verify import requirements (the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) and the AIRS Verification Service).

You will need:

  • Account Security/Business Number (it is a unique number assigned by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to brokers or importers for identification purposes.
  • CBSA EDI Application Forms: EDI Application for Importer/Broker Data Exchange (IID), Release and B3 Declaration EDI Application Form, EDI for Advance Commercial Information (ACI) Application Form, RNS Form Application Form.

Once you have these documents, proceed to sign up online with us. 

Importers and customs brokers (clearing shipments for their importers) are responsible for filing the IID with CBSA. This declaration process can be automated via our software solutions to simplify clearance for Canadian imports.

When your account setup is successfully completed by our Billing Department, you’re all set to begin filing and submitting your IID entries.
