Insufficient status means that a bond still exists, but entries cannot be made until it is placed back into sufficient status. Insufficient bonds can result from many things, including massive outstanding debts or claims, large risky entries, bad addresses (returns of USPS mail) or inadequate bond limits. Sometimes CBP provides 15 days’ notice, but sometimes the bond becomes insufficient without notice.
Note:Bonds are not subject to any deficiency of limits because of import value or import duties. If a bond is sufficient, any import may be made, regardless of the amount of imported goods or duties paid. A bond’s limit cannot be depleted.
