ACI eHBL 193 – What are the Commercial...

A comprehensive description of a commodity should be clear, concise, and provide enough detail for the CBSA to identify its size, shape, and characteristics. The description must use plain language and should not include any irrelevant information such as carrier disclaimers or quantity of items. In case the cargo is used, it must be specified in the description, otherwise, it will be assumed as new. For consolidated shipments, acceptable descriptions include Freight of All Kinds (FAK), shipper load and count (SLC), consolidated, general merchandise, and other vague descriptions. A list of acceptable and unacceptable descriptions is provided as a guide, but it may change as more refined descriptions become acceptable. It is important to note that the quantity and type of packaging should not be included in the cargo description field, such as “1 load of,” “10 boxes of,” “3 pallets of,” etc.
