A bonded freight forwarder is a company that transports in-bond goods within Canada and provides secondary cargo reports to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Freight forwarders can now apply for a bonded freight forwarder carrier code, even if they are located outside of Canada. To become a bonded air or rail carrier or freight forwarder, an applicant must complete the applicable application form, provide proof of ownership and signature, post security with the CBSA in the form of a Customs Bond, and mail the original bond and application to the CBSA. Once the carrier or freight forwarder code is received, the applicant must apply to transmit ACI to the CBSA and undergo testing.
