The Goods Astray shipment type and informal entry is used to release goods that were originally exported from Canada back into the country through the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Highway carriers are usually required to submit ACI eManifests for this shipment type unless they qualify for an exemption or exception.
When the carrier arrives at the border, CBSA will verify the information of the shipment to ensure that it meets the criteria for Goods Astray. This process may involve the presentation of evidence from U.S. Customs and Border Protection or from the carrier. If the information is satisfactory, the shipment will be released back to the carrier. More information on the verification process can be found in CBSA’s memorandums D3-4-2 and D3-6-6.
