The following outlines the RNS process for obtaining electronic notifications of release for all types of releases.
- The importer/broker submits the release documentation and data to the CBSA for processing.
- Once the shipment arrives and the transaction has processed, the CBSA updates its database. The extracted and released records are regularly transmitted to registered RNS participants.
- Based on the participant’s profile, the system generates one or more CUSRES messages to be sent to parties involved in the transaction.
- The RNS message(s) are delivered to the appropriate client inbox(es) or according to the participant’s profile.
- The client connects to their VAN or communication protocol and retrieves the RNS “automatic release” messages relevant to their profile, such as their account security number or carrier code, for the requested CBSA offices, regardless of the service option chosen.
- If a sufferance warehouse operator wants automatic release notifications for releases not related to their warehouse, they must obtain authorization from the applicable carrier(s). If a service provider is requesting automatic release notifications on behalf of a sufferance warehouse operator, the warehouse operator must give permission for the service provider to receive the notifications. Authorization letters, which must be included in the participant’s application, can be found in Appendix “C”.
