Free of Duty Shipments are known for their corresponding CBP Form 7523, which is used to clear U.S. Customs. This type of Informal Entry allows for the release at the border of shipments consisting of goods that are unconditionally or conditionally duty free and do not exceed $2500 USD.
In order to qualify, goods must have a value of less than 2500 USD and be either unconditionally duty free with no quotas or internal revenue taxes, or conditionally duty free with all conditions met at the time of entry. It is important that the carrier asks the importer or the importer’s customs broker for advice on whether the shipment should be Free of Duty since the carrier would not normally be in a position to make such a determination.
