Trip and Cargo Exemptions:
- CSA clearance – full load only
- Emergency response vehicles
- US Customs Border Protection (CBP) turnarounds
- Continuous Transmission Commodities (CTC) eg. electricity, oil, gas
- Military goods
- Bobtails
- Mail (Canada Post, US Mail, International) – full load only
- Hand carried goods – commercial goods carried by paying passengers onboard commercial vehicle or by a driver of a non-commercial vehicle (eg. personal vehicle)
- In-transit movements (interim period)
Cargo Exemption Only (trip still required):
- Courier Low Value shipment by an approved courier company
- Flying trucks – air cargo that arrives Canada on a highway vehicle
- Mail – as part of a mix load
- Empty equipment – ITT, empty racks, dunnage
- Personal effects aboard a commercial transport vehicle
- Emergency Repairs – A Canadian conveyance returning to Canada that needed repairs because of an unforeseen incident
- Each shipment type that qualifies as exemption cargo must still be indicated on the trip (under the truck or trailer details) by piece count
